We are blessed to have many volunteers at St. Ann Catholic School and are always open to more. In order to be a volunteer, the Archdiocese has certain requirements that must be met.
The Archdiocesan Safe Environment Program requires everyone 18 years or older who is volunteering with our children on a regular basis to attend a Protecting God’s Children Workshop, have a state police background check on file, and sign the Code of Ethics.
Anyone interested in being a room parent, assisting with classroom parties, going on class field trips, or in any other way being involved with the students must complete these three requirements. Information is available by contacting Mrs. Chris Hudson in the rectory office (314) 385-5090.
For 20+ years the St. Ann second graders have participated in the Prayer Pal program. Each student in 2nd grade is paired with a St. Ann parishioner who promises to keep them in prayer as they go through their sacramental preparation. In the beginning of the school year, the Prayer Pals are introduced to each other after an all-school liturgy. The 2nd graders escort their new Pals over to the classroom where they exchange notes and pictures and sing songs. From then on, the Prayer Pals meet at the back of church each week for a quick hug and hello before the students head back to the classroom.
Prayer Pals frequently attend the student’s First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. The second graders enjoy writing notes and drawing pictures for their Prayer Pals. All Prayer Pals promise to pray for each other daily!
If you are interested in becoming a Prayer Pal for the 2010-2011 school year, please contact Dana Aubuchon at (314) 381-0113 or via email.
The OASIS Intergenerational Tutoring Program has been operating at St. Ann Catholic School for 7 years. This program pairs volunteers from the parish age 50 and older with St. Ann students in grades K-4. Oasis tutors come to St. Ann once a week to work one-on-one with the students. They use a curriculum designed to build reading and language skills. Each tutor completes a comprehensive 2-day training. They also attend the Protecting God’s Children workshop.
We currently have 8 Oasis volunteers working at St. Ann School:
- Ann Beckring
- Karen Uhlenbrock
- Velja Lacey
- Carol Giblin
- Harry Beckenholdt
- Bernie Berns
- Alix Kirtland
The St. Ann students look forward to their weekly visit with the Oasis tutors! The volunteers love coming to St. Ann and being a part of our school family. Oasis is truly a win-win situation for everyone!
If you are interested in becoming an Oasis Volunteer please contact Joan Clarke at (314) 381-0113 or via email.
